APG Sponsors “Light the Way 5k”

On September 10th, 2011, APG’s CFO, Mike Stehly participated in The Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind’s First Annual “Light the Way 5k” fun Run & Walk at Nationals Park.
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind provides many needed services and programs for the Blind and visually impaired in the Washington D.C. area. Therefore, it is so important to raise awareness as well as the necessary dollars to perpetuate and expand these vital services. Between Mike’s personal fundraising, and APG’s corporate donation, $12,000 was donated on Mike’s behalf—the race’s largest donation!

Thanks to all who donated, came out to support or volunteered!

APG’s first Recruiting Open House was a huge success, and I’d like to thank everyone who was able to attend. Our Managment Team was busy interviewing attendees and was impressed with the candidates who attended. We met highly experienced Project Managers, SAP consultants, PeopleSoft consultants and Oracle Federal Financial consultants who were exactly what we were looking for.

Based on the positive feedback received, and the amount of requests for future Open Houses, stay tuned for details on the next one!

Spreading the Holiday Joy to local Reston families

For the past few years, APG has teamed with a local charity to “adopt” families in the community who are less fortunate. This year, APG continued the annual tradtion by partnering with Reston’s Interfaith organization and signed up to adopt 56 children. The donations of our employees exceeded our goal of $2800 and as you can imagine, we were running out of space in our office to store the gifts. The bags and boxes of gifts crept from the cubicles and eventually took over our CEO’s office.

We are proud to have employees who gave such gracious donations–our efforts would not have been as succesful without them! This holiday season we hope you find a moment to think about all you are greatful for.

Have a safe and joyful holiday!

APG kicks off the holiday season by participating in Crossroads’ Warming the Homeless

For the second year in a row, APG gave a financial donation to Warming the Homeless, an annual event hosted by Crossroads which distributes coats and boots to homeless men, women and children living in Washington, DC. This year, a combined total of 400 coats and boots were distributed!

With a winter predicted to be even worse than last year, the recipients expressed a deep level of gratitude. APG is humbled to give back to the city, as Washington, DC frequently ranks as one of the cities with the highest percentage of homelessness.

I will post updates as APG continues to spreads the holiday joy and gives back to the community this holiday season. One initiative that we are currently involved in is Adopt-a-Child, hosted by Interfaith. APG has committed to adopting 56 children, so we could really use your donation of an unwrapped gift or a financial donation. Our gift drop-off deadline is Dec 9, so please make sure to act TODAY if you want to donate! For more information on getting involved or contributing a gift or donation, please contact Marsha Hodgson at Marsha.Hodgson@apg.com.

APG adds 401(k) matching to benefits package

We are excited to announce that effective Jan 1, 2011, APG will add a 401(k) match to it’s benefits package!

APG’s benefits package was already very attractive, offering benefits such as: absorbing 60% of health premiums, two options for medical plans, Flexible Savings Account, covering 100% of the premium for Core Life/AD&D/STD/LTD insurance, standard 120 hours PTO, and now a 4% match for 401(k) contributions.

In an ailing economy where health care costs continue to rise and companies are cutting costs by scaling back on benefits, APG is proud to be a company which rewards employees by mitigating costs and continually adds to its  rich benefits package.

Add this to the list of “Top 10 Reasons why APG is a Great Place to Work” !

In Honor of Veteran’s Day

“Raising Flag on Iwo Jima”: a statute inspired from an extremely popular photo taken in 1945. The statue is of five United States Marines and a U.S. Navy corpsman raising the American flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. (Caitlin Mirra/Shutterstock.com)

Veteran’s Day is a day for us to honor and thank the men and women who have courageously served our country and sacrificed their life for our freedom.  We would like to recognize and give special thanks to  APG’s 13 Veteran employees who have made the transition from armed forces to civilian life, and are committed to the success of the Company.

As a DoD contractor for the federal government, APG has had great opportunities to support U.S. government agencies who strive to preserve the safety and intelligence of our country. Last May, APG won a contract with the American Battle Monuments Commission (AMBC) as the systems integrator to implement the Commission onto the Oracle eBusiness Suite hosted at the National Business Center. The Commission honors the service, achievements and sacrifices of United States Armed Forces. The Commission’s commemorative mission includes designing, constructing, operating and maintaining permanent American cemeteries in foreign countries. The photo below is of the Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial just outside Paris, France, taken by an APG consultant overseas working on the Oracle implementation.

So, this Veteran’s Day, take some time to remember those, and family members of those who have heroically served our country, but also take some time to think about those who are actively serving in the armed forces today.

Veteran’s Day marks the end of World War I. (Andrew Lawatsch/APG)
